In Congress This Week:
With the GOP ACA repeal/replace stalling so many times, it’s interesting to see a few bills that aim to dismantle certain pieces of the ACA gaining momentum in the House and Senate- Namely, HR 285, HR 352, and S 260. We have our eyes on you Congress!
House: Mon- Voting on a series of bills including HR 910 (Expanding ‘safe harbor’ for securities.) GOP, why are you always trying to help rich people? Budget talks to continue as the new deadline is this Fri, May 5th.
Senate: Still confirming people. Noticing a little more action with bills/co-sponsors.

In the News: 4/21 – At Friday’s Chamber of Congress event, Issa defended the practice of ICE agents trolling courthouses for illegal immigrants, saying it’s a fine practice because the people at courthouses are criminals. 4/23 – Issa appeared Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” and said he believes in Trump’s policies and wants them to be in place in his district.
New Issa Bills: HR 2168 (First Responders Passport Act) – Bipartisan bill to allow waiver of passport fees to first responders to natural disasters abroad. And, Conrad State 30 & Physician Access Bill – Bipartisan bill to provide incentives to physicians to practice in rural & medically underserved communities; would allow international med students to remain in the US after residency if they work in underserved areas.

HR 1021/S361 To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to deem specified terrorist activities as a renunciation of nationality
S 295/276 Divide Ninth Circuit into two and add more federal judges for Trump to appoint
HR 781 Allow charitable organizations (churches) to make political statements GAINING MOMENTUM!
HR 727 To prohibit federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting after 2019
HR 861 Eliminate EPA
HR 1510 Elimination of Department of Education
HR 1431/1430 Both interfering with EPA and scientific process. Passed House. On to Senate.
HR 1718 Another bill to repeal the ACA
HR 2090 Require Voter ID law
S 939 El Chapo Bill. Ted Cruz’s plan: use drug money to fund “the wall.” NEW BILL! Ummm..say whaa?
HR 10 Financial Choice Act of 2017: deregulate Wall Street and gut Dodd Frank. NEW BILL!
Recommended Action: Continue to pound Issa/Your Rep on health care! Call, rally, make your voice heard. We are having a huge impact. Keep Congress scared. Keep sick, elderly, pregnant and low-income Americans safe!
