Has Ignored Calls for More Public Restrooms Downtown Since 2014
By Martha Sullivan / Change.org
The San Diego City government, led by Mayor Faulconer, has been told for three years that more public restrooms are needed downtown. But the Mayor has consistently cried poor mouth — despite spending $2.1 million on an unplanned EIR for an upgraded Qualcomm Football Stadium during this time.
From The Voice of San Diego:
“San Diego leaders have repeatedly been told that more public restrooms are needed downtown.
“A 2014 report by a task force assembled under ex-Mayor Bob Filner called on the city to develop a plan for adding public restrooms and replacing six that were being removed, and research whether it could cover bathroom maintenance costs with downtown parking revenues. The city attorney’s office repeatedly concluded the city can’t use that funding source for restrooms.
“A year later, the San Diego County Grand Jury declared the city needed more public restrooms and that the city was taking too long to add them. At the time, the city hadn’t added any public restrooms other than Portland Loos in more than a decade.”

Investigate San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer for Criminal Negligence in Hepatitis A Epidemic
We call upon California’s Attorney General, Xavier Becerra, to launch a criminal investigation of San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer for his willful neglect of the health and safety of homeless San Diegans over the past 1-2 years, which has resulted in 16 unwarranted deaths in San Diego from Hepatitis A so far. This is the largest outbreak of Hepatitis A in the nation in 20 years. In comparison, last year nationwide there were 67 deaths.
Such a criminal investigation is appropriate given the prosecution of 5 state and local government officials in Michigan by a special prosecutor for involuntary manslaughter, in the deaths of 12 residents of Flint MI from its notoriously contaminated water.

Update: Here’s what San Diego is doing on Tuesday Morning…

This morning before reading your story on the Hepatitis A out break, I was talking w my wife and suggested to her that the Mayor has put all San Diegans at risk with his homeless strategy and should be charged with criminal negligence for involuntary man slaughter. I believe the attorney general should open an investigation into this truth.

For those wondering why San Diegans are now facing the nation’s deadliest hepatitis epidemic in decades, I’ve updated this background report. I’ve included the latest announcements from the County Medical Director: he has acknowledged that 2 more deaths are under investigation, and hundreds of new infections are likely in the coming months. That means we are now at 444 cases, 16+ deaths, and 305 hospitalizations.

How another major tourist destination managed a deadly #hepatitis outbreak.
“In addition to recovering direct costs incurred by those who received post-exposure injections, the lawsuit is expected to raise public and corporate awareness about Hepatitis A vaccinations, which Marler has been advocating for all foodservice workers for several years.
“As a premier tourist destination, we want Hawaii to have the highest standards in food safety so our guests feel secure. We also want our local people to be taken care of. This suit is a step toward that,” attorney Trevor Brown of Starn O’Toole Marcus & Fisher said in a news release after the civil case was filed.”

Mayor Falconer, You ran for mayor saying With Father Joe that you were going to help the homeless. It seems that was just a political ploy to get more votes. Now after 16 people have died and many more are sick you are just noticing the problem after so many agencies warned you about this problem?
I have friends that live downtown and I live uptown and we are not happy with anything you have NOT done. We hired you to do a job and now nothing. Please DO YOUR JOB!!
