My Family
Wedded, divorced, widowed and single
Our households have fractured and blended to mingle
Half-siblings, step-siblings, foster kids small,
Bio-moms, step-moms, adoptive moms all.
Catholic, Jewish, Quaker, Unitarian,
Atheist, Mormon, Pagan, Presbyterian.
Gun toting, weed smoking, sober and clean.
Democrat, Trumpian, Communist, Green.
Bi-racial, bilingual, bi-sexual—a few—
Bi-continental and bi-polar, too.
Brain biochemistries alter our moods.
Meat-eaters, vegans we choose different foods.
Elders and infants, parents and teens
varied in lifestyles, skin tones and genes.
Coding computers, farming in France
Bulldozing, inn-keeping, business finance,
Activists, artists, real estate brokers,
Nurses, professors, wild-caught salmon-smokers.
By faith and profession, by politics and taste,
Addictions, convictions, re-cycling of waste,
My family reveals the human condition
Since Eden evolving expanding tradition.
