Donald Trump and his enablers know the statistics from experience and rely on it to shield their groping, harassment, and pussy-grabbing. And now they are exploiting this reality in their quest to place a man on the nation’s highest court who’s history indicates he’ll do everything possible to further subjugate women.
There are well-established facts about sexual assault and its aftermath: only 310 out of every 1,000 rapes are reported. Of those rapes reported to police, just 57 lead to arrests, 11 are referred to prosecutors, seven lead to felony convictions, and six lead to incarceration for the rapist. Victims of rape have long-lasting consequences, including PTSD, suicidal thoughts, problems at work or school, drug use, and more.
Assault survivors commonly don’t come forward immediately—like Christine Blasey Ford. They commonly have trouble recalling every detail accurately—like Christine Blasey Ford. And, not surprisingly, the actions most typical of women who’ve been raped or sexually assaulted or abused are frequently used to question whether they’re telling the truth.
Knowing their strategy of trying to scare Ford out of testifying isn’t working as intended, GOP enablers floated a theory trying to pin the assault on one of Kavanaugh’s old friends. That’s blown up, mostly because the friend in question didn’t back them up, and the “facts” were flakier than a croissant. Now they’re stuck with a tacit admission that the assault did happen.
They know how disastrous the optics of a hearing where her character and mental stability are questioned would be. So now, Donnie T. has gone into a victim-blaming mode.
Trump took to Twitter Friday morning, starting off with his usual praise of Kavanaugh’s “impeccable reputation” and moving on to claim the nominee “under assault by radical left-wing politicians who don’t want to know the answers, they just want to destroy and delay. Facts don’t matter.”
Trump came back for more twenty minutes later, tweeting that “I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!”
I have no way of knowing how the vote on Kavanaugh will turn out. I do know that, whatever the outcome, the old white guys in DC have motivated millions of women to make sure to vote in the upcoming elections.
Now’s the time to make a plan to vote, and to encourage your friends to do so. Mail-in ballots go out in less than two weeks. Even though most of them won’t appear on every ballot, there are more than six hundred people running for office in San Diego County alone. Opportunities to learn about and engage with campaigns and issues are popping up everywhere. All you have to do is pay attention.
Getting out the vote is clearly the priority in this week’s calendar of events, as it should be. Ignore the polls and the trolls. Do your bit to make sure all your neighbors, friends, and family vote in the general election. I should also note that getting involved with campaigns as a volunteer is a great way to expand your circle of friends beyond social media.
Get your event listed in the SDFP Progressive Activist Calendar: I try to list the next 10 days or so of mostly non-commercial events I think our readers might find of interest. I source my material from social media listings and press releases. Club meetings will be listed IF there are speakers and they are open to the public.
Democratic Candidates: I will list all non-fundraising events open to the general public. A listing does not imply endorsement. Events that are listed on Facebook as ‘private’ or sold-out are not listed. In cases where there are competing but similar events or campaigns of the progressive persuasion, I do my best to list everything.

Join Kevin Cosney, Organizing Coordinator at California Calls, to discuss the importance of building Black Political power in California.
A new opportunity and need to engage African American voters has emerged in the wake of Black Lives Matter and a growing national movement to raise public awareness and accountability around police brutality, mass incarceration and the problem of school-to-prison pipeline practices in public schools.
California is home to the 5th largest black population in the country. African-Americans play a defining role in electing progressive candidates and passing progressive laws. As “likely voters” in the Black community age, it is critical to engage and motivate younger generations to step into leadership and civic engagement at higher rates.

We have roughly 8 weeks to help assure this outcome. Let’s get together for one more conversation about what options we each have to add to one final pre-election thrust. There are ways to contribute that don’t take a great deal of time and don’t put you in a position of having to talk with strangers.
We’re working on getting a special guest speaker and we’ll have experts who will share strategies to put Ammar over the top. As usual, there will be food and beverages. I’m sure that by the end of our meeting we’ll have the roadmap to success.

U.S. District Court – Southern District of California
333 West Broadway
For More Information
Hosted by Resist Here and 3 others
Stand up for integrity in politics on Monday when Dirty Duncan Hunter appears again in federal court. Hunter is facing criminal charges for stealing $250,000 in campaign funds for outrageous and extravagant personal expenses like fancy vacations, expensive restaurants, dental work, and school tuition – and much more.
So it’s no surprise he sold out constituents and our democracy when he voted for the Tax Scam last fall to pay off his wealthy donors – who more than paid him back in donations he used to finance his extravagant lifestyle. But Hunter’s corruption isn’t just a slap in the face to constituents – it’s illegal!
Join Clean Up Carl, Independent Indivisible and Mayday outside the courthouse to shame Duncan Hunter and to say nobody is above the law. Carl is a big inflatable man in a toxic waste clean-up suit. Please bring an item or poster that represents Hunter’s corrupt purchases and we’ll be sure voters hear our message loud and clear! Let’s help voters and the media visualize exactly what Hunter’s donors paid for.

330 Park Boulevard
For More Information
Hosted by SPJ San Diego Pro Chapter
How does an investigative reporter find good stories? How do you get reluctant sources to talk on the record? When you’re drowning in documents, data and interviews, how do you stay organized? These are just a few of the questions SPJ’s Better Journalism Workshop will answer with investigative reporters Amy Julia Harris (Reveal) and Amy Brittain (The Washington Post). The talk will be moderated by KPBS reporter Andrew Bowen.
Last year Brittain broke the story of sexual harassment and groping accusations against Charlie Rose, leading to his firing from CBS and the cancellation of his PBS show. In 2016 she shared the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for the Post’s coverage of fatal police shootings. Harris’ reporting uncovered abuses and forced labor in the drug rehabilitation industry, leading to multiple criminal investigations and four federal class-action lawsuits alleging slavery and fraud. Her work won her a Sigma Delta Chi Award for investigative reporting from SPJ and became a finalist for the 2018 Pulitzer Prize.

September Meeting (Endorsements)
Sunday, September 30, 1:30pm
Logan Heights Library
567 South 28th Street
For More Information
This is going to be a big meeting for our chapter. We need YOU to come and share your input as we endorse candidates for the midterms.
Our team is hard at work creating another voter’s guide for the November midterms. Just like in the primaries, we’re putting together research and insights on the candidates and measures that will appear on your ballot.
Educating voters is important. However, these midterm elections are a big deal, and we want to go beyond individual votes. Endorsing candidates in and channeling our efforts in the form of neighborhood canvassing, phone/text banking or other volunteer opportunities for their campaigns can help protect or flip critical districts.
At the September 30th meeting, we will present a list of proposed races that we would like to consider for endorsement. We will explain the process of how we selected that list, in the context of the values we constructed as a chapter over the past year. We will clarify how an endorsement from SDID will translate into action… and how YOU will be involved in that process. Finally, and most importantly, we will ask for your input on which candidates we as a chapter should endorse.

Call to Action if Trump Fires Mueller
March for Truth—an organization that is working with dozens of advocacy groups to organize rapid response protests has partnered with MoveOn.org, Public Citizen, Indivisible and many others to prepare emergency ‘Nobody is Above the Law‘ rallies that will happen directly following the firing of the special counsel should it occur. There are already events in 800+ cities and communities scheduled across the country—more than 300,000 people are prepared to take to the streets.
By firing Mueller or Rosenstein, the president would trigger a full-fledged constitutional crisis by asserting that he is above the law. The hours following the firing will determine whether he is proved right.

Through People Power, the ACLU will engage volunteers across the country to take action when Trump or his administration attempt to enact unconstitutional policies or trample on people’s constitutional rights. By mobilizing in defense of our civil liberties, volunteers will build local communities that affirm our American values of respect, equality, and solidarity.

you have “no way of knowing how the vote on Kavanaugh will turn out.” what? of course we know:
unless 2 – TWO! – reptile senators actually vote against, he. will. be. confirmed.
it takes two because in only one turns-coat, the VP will cast the deciding vote.
and, let’s fact it, the chances of that happening are – shall we just say – very small.
