San Diego Free PressThe San Diego Free Press is being established, in association with the OB Rag, to bring news and commentary from a distinctively progressive and grassroots perspective to the greater San Diego and outlying areas. Our mission is to provide a forum for those views, just as we’ve done at the OB Rag, but on a larger scale.

We are looking for local writers, bloggers and citizen journalists who may have their own websites and would like to expand their audience, or want to write but don’t have an outlet.

Contact us at Contact@SanDiegoFreePress.org

You might like to check out our history. Founded as an underground newspaper by philosophy student Herbert Marcuse at the University of California, San Diego, SDFP was re-established by a few visionaries in 2011. A completely volunteer staff dedicated to avoiding advertisers and sponsors of any kind, this allows writers, editors and commentators to have greater flexibility and freedom of thought.

We are also unapologetically a liberal progressive on-line media outlet. We do not apologize for that. We are both open and honest about our political leanings, something that other media outlets often do not disclose so openly.

San Diego Free Press Has Suspended Publication as of Dec. 14, 2018

Let it be known that Frank Gormlie, Patty Jones, Doug Porter, Annie Lane, Brent Beltrán, Anna Daniels, and Rich Kacmar did something necessary and beautiful together for 6 1/2 years. Together, we advanced the cause of journalism by advancing the cause of justice. It has been a helluva ride. "Sometimes a great notion..." (Click here for more details)
