Once again a date with a 72 year old man – that turned out to be 82 after we played “Truth or Consequences” – he wanted me to tell him the truth – did he really look 82 ? – took me to North County for breakfast. I had been to Bully’s many times but not to the one in Del Mar; La Jolla when there was one in La Jolla, and to the one in Mission Valley. Bully’s is known for their Prime Rib, but I could not stomach the idea of Prime Rib for breakfast so ordered something else. More on that another time.
The menu is extensive – Appetizers, Salads and Soups, Prime Rib, Steak and Ribs, a variety of “Surf and Turf” combinations; Shellfish, Fish and Chicken, and for the lunch crowd Sandwiches, Eggs and Omelettes – their spelling , and Lunch Entrees. There are also 4 items on their Dessert menu as well as a “Daily Selection”. (It is interesting to note that on their takeout menu and their menu on-line there are no prices listed.)
I ordered the “California Omelette” which consisted of onions, mushrooms, avocado, tomato and Mozzarella Cheese. I was given a choice of cottage cheese, fresh fruit or Cajon style potatoes, and chose the fruit after checking to make sure it was fresh, not frozen or canned. I ordered Rye toast with it and had Raspberry Ice Tea to drink.
My date was not very adventurous; he ordered two eggs over easy and two slices of crisp bacon. They were served perfectly. He ordered their potatoes, and sour dough toast. He also ordered coffee with “lots of cream” and when ordering the toast asked for “lots of butter.” Both the cream and butter were ample. In all fairness, the eggs were cooked to perfection and the bacon was crisp. (Not to compare it to breakfast with my daughter at the “Broken Yoke” only a few days before where she sent the bacon back because it was not crisp.) The potatoes, which he said were the best in San Diego, were very spicy, but tasty.)
The Omelet was cooked well. It was hot and presented nicely. The fruit was indeed fresh, and all of it, including the honey dew melon was ripe. The toast, although not buttered, did have butter on the side.
Our waitress, Aubrey, was cheerful, helpful, and only flubbed up one time when she did not ask me if I wanted a refill of the tea until I was finished with my meal. (She did ask me when I had finished, and I asked for 1/2 glass more which she brought with a smile.)
My omelet, with the tea and tip came to $17. I am not sure how much my date paid, because I believe his eggs and bacon were about $9 and the coffee was extra. If anything, he paid a few dollars less that I did. (Yes, we had agreed that this was a “meeting” – not a date – and we would pay for ourselves.)
Would I go back for breakfast. Yes. I could not find fault with anything served to us. (Yes, readers, I do occasionally look for flaws!)

My significant other and I always go out for breakfast on Sunday mornings. We are always looking for different places to go in different parts of the county. We had breakfast at the Chula Vista marina last Sunday and that turned out good. We’ll have to try Bully’s next Sunday. Thanks, Judi, for the heads up.
Haven’t been to the CV Marina for years. Glad to hear it was good. As I recall, it has changed hands several times. Will have to put in on my list. Thanks.
