I am absolutely amazed at two stories that hit the news within the past 24 hours. I don’t even know which one to start with first. Maybe the ludicrous should go first:
Pfizer Pharmaceuticals has decided that men may begin to purchase VIAGRA – don’t you think the word “VIAGRA” should be in erect letters? – directly from them, with a prescription, of course, because – are you ready for this? – men are embarrassed to take their prescription to a pharmacist. After all, the pharmacist knows what the prescription is for, and to save the man from the embarrassment he can now buy it without anyone knowing he has that little blue pill in his pocket.
Before commenting further on this travesty, let’s skip to the next horrifying news to hit today.
Amazon.com is selling a shooting target mannequin named “The Ex”, a large-breasted woman who bleeds when shot. It is manufactured by Zombie Industries, a company that was featured at the NRA convention last weekend. Perhaps it is unfair to single out Amazon, but they are the ones that I know are selling this product, and it just makes me ill.
Men, to save them embarrassment are able to purchase a pill through the mail that will give them an erection whereby they can penetrate women, get them pregnant – although if a dirty old man needs a pill to “get it up” does he have any fertile sperm left? – and the legislature of many States are passing laws that women cannot have abortions; can’t buy birth-control pills, etc.
Who in the hell do they think are getting these women pregnant? The “rifle” they are using is attached to their anatomy – and even if they are shooting “blanks” the target they are aiming at is a living, human being with feelings and possible repercussions. There are companies that are allowed to make products that further denigrate the female.
Women are, all of a sudden, the “enemy”; their role is back to the “keep them barefoot and pregnant.” Women are being “devalued” – to use a term a former teacher of mine used in her rant about “The Ex”. Do these men think that they were a dust ball that was swept into the corner and allowed to hatch? What kind of person would design a shooting target that bleeds from their breasts?
And, further more, what kind of a person would even purchase this shooting target? This world is sick, and getting sicker by the moment. How much longer are we women going to put up with this kind of crap? I think it is time for us to really unite; let’s show those little pricks what it is like to think with a brain. Let’s shut down manufactures like “Zombie Industries”.
And above all, let’s get rid of the NRA.

I agree. I like using amazon, and I do frequently, but as I told them, (via emailing customer service) I will not have any dealings with a company connected to such a product. I asked that whoever read my email pass it on to the higher ups. I also asked that THEY as an employee take a stand. I don’t expect Amazon to know each product a company offers though their site. But I think by now they know what they are/were offering. This morning I could no longer find any Zombie Industry 3D, lifelike targets on their site. The pages that I had kept open were “no longer available”. I hope all retailers can be boycotted by some means.
I think it’s important that MEN take a stand on this too. I felt obligated to. Internally obligated.

Judi- there is so much discussion about how we can be such a violent country. One answer has to be the tacit acceptance of violence against women that begins in the home and ends up as a horrifying statistic about unreported incidences of sexual assault in the military(which includes men as well as women, but women are the majority) and “slut shaming.” The Zombie Ex target is the confluence of misogyny and the violent underpinning of the gun culture. Both need to end.
Behind every sadist who purchases “The Ex” stands an abused woman. And behind my initial rage lies a well of sadness.

I have just been notified that Amazon is no longer offering this target. However, that doesn’t mean that others are not selling the product. Am doing some checking to see if it is still for sale elsewhere.
This one is pretty horrible too for oh soooooooooooo many reasons:
On the good side, as Gloria Steinem observed long ago, when their attacks become more maniacal, you know your side is winning. The feminine is rising worldwide, and some insecure men are feeling threatened. These men don’t like to play fair. But the trend, though on a slow roll, will eventually leave little room for misogyny. The violent male is a dinosaur that’s headed for extinction. He’s just going down fighting, terrible as it is for those who stand in their way. But down, down, down they will go.
