Hundreds of people turned out in Mission Bay Park on Saturday, June 3 as part of the nationwide March for Truth.

The San Diego version of March For Truth, a national coalition of activist groups, was one of 140 events around the U.S. demanding that leaders in government defend the rule of law and fully investigate the Trump administration’s motives for interfering in the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and ties to Donald Trump and his associates. The event was co-sponsored by Invisible groups from around San Diego.

The demands of the March were simple:

  • An independent commission must be established and Congressional investigations should be properly resourced and pursued free of partisan interests;
  • As much information should be made available to the public as possible, and as soon as possible;
  • Congress should require Donald Trump to release his tax returns to clarify his business interests and obligations to any foreign entity;
  • If crimes were committed or if collusion is discovered, it must be prosecuted.

Following speeches at Mission Bay Park,  marchers snaked along the bay up to a rallying point just south of the Mission Bay Visitors Center. More speeches were made, activist groups pitched their causes through booths, and a delegation went up on the bridge overlooking Interstate 5 to wave signs at passing traffic. A handful of pro-Trump supporters were also on the bridge.

A similar event was also held in Escondido, near the North County Westfield Mall. Organizers reported 170+ people in attendance.

Earlier in the day, Rep. Darrell Issa held his semi-public town hall in San Juan Capistrano. Many of the seats inside his “sold out” event went unfilled. Issa took to the stage to announce the startling “discovery” that Indivisible was now able to pay its staff in Washington DC, the implication being that all Indivisible groups were now “paid protesters.”

Issa’s appearance inside was upstaged outside by a crowd of [unpaid] protesters and an inflatable Chicken.

In Washington DC, a pro-Trump rally in Lafayette Plaza called to show support for the decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement drew dozens. A desperate White House issued a press release with a link from”InfoWars” claiming the huge crowds supporting the president dwarfed the March for Truth…  (see pictures below) …giving credence to the reasons why a March for Truth was necessary in the first place.

Let it be known that Frank Gormlie, Patty Jones, Doug Porter, Annie Lane, Brent Beltrán, Anna Daniels, and Rich Kacmar did something necessary and beautiful together for 6 1/2 years. Together, we advanced the cause of journalism by advancing the cause of justice. It has been a helluva ride. "Sometimes a great notion..." (Click here for more details)
