San Diego’s own Duncan Hunter Jr. has been making national news lately. Federal indictments seem to have that kind of effect. MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes covered him as part of its “Thing 1 / Thing 2” feature. Part of the coverage included the news that the Cook Political Report has moved Hunter’s 50th Congressional District from “Solidly Republican” to “Lean Republican”, but with a note that there’s a potential to move further! Way to go, Duncan! There’s also some video of Duncan arriving at the courthouse, being greeted by some vocal critics. Yikes!

Since our platform is about expressing ideas and ideals instead of cash flow, clicks, or fundraising, we have the freedom to include a wide range of topics and formats that might not work elsewhere. We don’t need or want paid content, promotional materials, or story lines designed to please donors.

So the idea here is to present videos one or more of the editors feel speaks to them. Sometimes it will be news. Sometimes it will be history. And a lot of the time it will be culture. You can not and should not separate these things: it is diversity and intersectionality that makes our movement strong.

It looks like the flagrant use of campaign funds for personal use is coming home to roost. For many years Duncan Hunter has been living a much more lavish life style than his measly $171,000. Congressional salary permitted. Traveling all over the world, while falsely saying it was always for bona fide Congressional purposes, was a standing joke to many who knew of this flagrant abuse of campaign funds. However, Hunter seemed so entrenched in a very red district that it didn’t seem to matter, even when it was exposed, at length, in the San Diego Reader newspaper. Now that it is the Department of Justice that is indicting him for his spending sprees, along with his wife, who was his campaign manager, it is a different story!
