A rally on Friday at MiraCosta College in Oceanside aimed at encouraging young voters will feature one of Bernie Sanders two appearances in California.

The Vermont Senator will reportedly be joined by Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti as he winds up a nine-state trip in support of Democratic candidates.
The Associated Press reported earlier in October that the California portion of the tour will include support for Congressional candidates Mike Levin (49th) and Ammar Campa-Najjar (50th).
Sponsors for the rally include: California Democratic Party, Grassroots Resources, IBEW Local, Mike Levin & Scott Peters Congressional Campaigns, San Diego Building Trades Unions, North County Young Democrats, and Democrats of Miracosta College.
Vote by mail voters are being encouraged to bring their ballots; “I Voted” stickers will be distributed to them.
Ammar-etto American Dream ice cream from the founders of Ben & Jerry’s will be featured at an event for 50th Congressional District Candidate Ammar Campa Najjar on Sunday, October 28th at Grape Day Park in Escondido. Ben Cohen of Ben and Jerry’s will be on hand to oversee free samples of a special limited batch of forty pints made in his home kitchen in support of Ammar. .
The event is part of a nation-wide contest announced in September co-sponsored by MoveOn.Org to raise awareness for seven Democratic House challengers.
From Politico:
The effort — called Ben and Jerry (the people, not the corporation) Take Back Congress, Flavor by Flavor — asks voters to invent ice cream names and flavors inspired by the seven Democratic candidates. Then, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, who spearheaded a similar effort for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in 2016, will make a limited, homemade batch of each flavor and raffle off the pints to supporters. MoveOn.org will also send fundraising pitches for each of the candidates as part of the contest.
The endorsed candidates include: Jess King, the challenger facing Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-Pa.); Ammar Campa-Najjar, who’s running against Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.); Lauren Underwood, who’s challenging Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Ill.); Aftab Pureval, running against Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio); J.D. Scholten, the Democrat facing King in Iowa; James Thompson, who’s running against Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kan.); and Stephany Rose Spaulding, who’s challenging Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.).
Cohen and Greenfield selected the slate of candidates by focusing on “long shots, up and comers and candidates who might not be given a chance by institutional actors,” said Edward Erikson, a consultant who’s working with Cohen and Greenfield. “They’re all in difficult seats to win, but we want to spread out the map.”
If Duncan Hunter wins, will the 50th District end up with nobody in Congress? That’s a real possibility, according to a Los Angeles Times story exploring the indicted Congressman’s options should he be convicted on felony charges stemming from misused campaign contributions.
The congressman from Alpine pleaded not guilty in August and refused to take himself out of the race, saying the federal indictment alleging fraud and conspiracy was politically motivated. (Even if he had withdrawn, his name would have remained on the ballot.)
If Hunter wins reelection and is subsequently convicted, there is no constitutional provision or House rule that explicitly requires him to lose his seat, even if he is imprisoned and unable to vote on behalf of his district. Whether he would be pressured to resign could largely depend on which party comes out on top in congressional elections.
“You can be found guilty and still serve,” said Loyola Law School professor Jessica Levinson.
The possibility of Duncan Hunter remaining as the representative of District 50 even while serving a prison term increases should Republicans maintain control of the House.

Finally…
Did he just say he’s sending our military to stop a group of refugees and asylum seekers who are 1.1k miles from the nearest border crossing (McAllen, Texas) and 2k miles from the more likely crossing (San Diego), even though 1/6 of them will make it to the states? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/a55ytq4dIs
