San Diego Joins National Protest Against Keystone XL
A number of prominent environmental organizations and groups have come together to organize a San Diego protest against the Keystone Pipeline and to fight against climate change – joining groups nation-wide for a day of action next Sunday, the 17th.
Groups such as SanDiego350.org, Citizens Climate Lobby, Sierra Club San Diego, Environmental Health Coalition, Women Occupy San Diego, and many other organizations are planning a rally on Sunday, Feb. 17th, at the Mission Bay Park Visitors’ Center, in east Mission Bay, near the I-5 freeway. Protesters are being asked to wear all-black.
Protests are also happening in Los Angeles , San Francisco and other cities across the country.
The pipeline is designed to carry dirty tar sands oil from Canada to the U.S.

Music by Charlie Imes, a Singing Telegram to President Obama by the Occupella Chorus, and lots of signs and banners are being plalnned.
Organizers say:
It’s time to put boots on the ground. Let’s see if we can make this the biggest environmental rally ever in San Diego and demand local as well as national action on climate change. We urge you, your group members, family, and friends to be there and let your voice be heard. Let’s WAKE UP San Diego to the strength and commitment of our environmental community! We look forward to seeing you February 17th.

i’ll be there, riding my BIKE…. all you wonderful environmentalist driving your oil burning cars/suvs, please give EXTRA $$$$$ to compensate for your car vice….
Kudos to micaela, I also ride my bike whenever possible especially on local trips where it’s most practical-besides riding a bike allows me, at age 50, to wear the same size 32 waist Levi’s I did when I was 21.
I am fully in support of blocking the Keystone pipeline, out neighbors to the north (who usually tout their green oriented philosophies) have been given free reign for too long promoting their environmentally costly tar sands production.
However on the larger issue of climate change, I fear this is going to be the equal of a Sunday Mass for environmental activists, indulging their need to feel good doing something to save the planet. Then later go home and feel sorry about their role in living comfortably while children in Ethiopia face famine and things of that nature.
At the end of the day, putting their faith in Al Gore and the IPCC that the political clout they helped wield will be enacted in policies to actually do some good. These are both noble causes, give to the have nots exploited by decades of imperialism, and save the planet from the damage of industrial activity of man- two sentiments which form much of the progressive ideology today- what’s wrong with that?
Since spamming the site with walls of text cross posted in multiple threads is in poor taste (and likely pushing the rules) please refer to two posts I just made in this thread:

Which should enlighten people on why their efforts so far have surely done more harm than good. Just showing up on Sunday shouting “we want something done” is going to get something done. You’ll make it worse.
You don’t have to take my word for it, statistics don’t lie. During the time since the inception of the Kyoto Protocol, continuing today, total global greenhouse gas emissions not only rose sharply, but the rate of their increase rose as well. Yet similar measures are all that are on the table today.
