Last week, floundering Republican City Attorney Jan Goldsmith, at the behest of Bank of America, began the prosecution of San Diego protester Jeff Olson for writing anti-bank slogans on the sidewalk, in washable chalk, in front of their North Park branch.

Mr. Olson was charged with 13 counts of vandalism and faced a year in jail and a $1000 fine on each count. He faced a total possible sentence of 13 years in jail and $13,000! Luckily a San Diego jury on Monday, July 1st, using common sense, found him not guilty on all counts.

City Attorney Jan Goldsmith may have wasted over one hundred thousand dollars of taxpayer’s money to prosecute someone for exercising their 1st amendment rights, on public property, to do the bidding of his corporate master.

Freedom loving progressives and liberals all over San Diego are tired of right wing politicians working on behalf of corporations and the rich instead of defending the rights and interests of average citizens like Jeff Olson.

So tired that a Recall Jan Goldsmith Facebook page has garnered over 230 likes in less than a week. So tired that a nationwide Chalk-In is taking place this Saturday at various Bank of America branches throughout San Diego and the rest of the country.

I’m so tired of this that I have decided to take action in my own community to protest Bank of America’s policies that not only pushed Goldsmith to prosecute Mr. Olson but also lead to the financial crisis that has almost virtually destroyed the middle class (the poor and working class have already been devastated).

This Saturday, in conjunction with the national call of protest, I am organizing a free speech Chalk-In at the Barrio Logan branch of Bank of America. The protest will take place from noon until 2pm at 2209 National Ave. Protesters will be asked to write anti-bank and anti-Goldsmith slogans (though what you decide to write is totally up to you) in washable chalk on the sidewalk outside this BofA. I will bring some chalk to share please do so as well (kneepads might be a good idea too).

If you have a Bank of America in your neighborhood take some chalk on Saturday and have at it. If not, come on down to Barrio Logan, we don’t bite.

pass the chalkHere is my Las Monthly Ondas event list, in chronological order, of some of the ondas that are taking place in San Diego in July.
