Known for mixing history and culture with contemporary themes, Eric J. Garcia always tries to create art that is much more than just aesthetics. Born and raised in Albuquerque’s South Valley, Garcia earned his BFA from the University of New Mexico and went on to get his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I’m always ready to read these posts by Eric Garcia. Then turned by the sheer brevity of the graphics. I feel like I “get it” usually. There’s something here in this piece that went slower and deeper when it hit me. I’m still trying to process this immigration thing by all its means. This piece just downright hurts.
Confusing times to be both true to one’s heritage and showing duty to the dream country. There’s shame out there folks. It’s only a democracy if it’s actually functioning like one.
