Forty-Plus Ways to Get Politically Active
By Doug Porter
The Randian nightmare, also known as the Trump administration continues to unfold. A budget plan presented by the White House this week is a boon for billionaires and kick in the teeth for the rest of us.
It should be clear by now we’re in for a long struggle. There are ongoing activities, organizations to support, and organizing to be done. AND, we should try to have a little fun along the way! Take a walk, have a talk, read a book, and turn off the internet from time-to-time.
So what will you do? Check out this week’s Progressive Activist Calendar listings below. Following those listings are upcoming events of national importance, along with opportunities for organizational involvement.
Get your event listed: I try to list the next 10 days or so of mostly non-commercial events I think our readers might find of interest. I source my material from social media listings and press releases.
Events that are listed on Facebook as ‘private’ or sold out are not listed. In cases where there are competing but similar events or campaigns of the progressive persuasion, I do my best to list everything.
You can now subscribe to the weekly Progressive Activist Calendar. It’s free and we don’t share email addresses with anybody. Scroll down to the end of this column for the link.

March For Science (April 22)
The March for Science is a celebration of our passion for science and a call to support and safeguard the scientific community. Recent policy changes have caused heightened worry among scientists, and the incredible and immediate outpouring of support has made clear that these concerns are also shared by hundreds of thousands of people around the world. The politicization of science, which has given policymakers permission to reject overwhelming evidence, is a critical and urgent matter. It is time for people who support scientific research and evidence-based policies to take a public stand and be counted. On April 22, 2017 hundreds of thousands of people will walk out of their lab coats and into the streets of Washington.

Near the 100th day of this administration and facing the threat of a President who denies the reality of climate change, we will stand together and take action. We will march for our air, our water, and our land. We will march for clean energy jobs and climate justice. We will march for healthy communities and for the people we love. We will march for our freedom to live, survive and thrive. And we will be louder and stronger than ever before.”

I enjoy receiving your almost daily e-mail.
Good advice to get off the machine and try to relax or get some exercise.
I spend too much time notifying and trying to convince politicians and school boards that my 11 year old son (only child, I’m 66) is looking at a bleak future.
Thanks For Your Convictions,
Brian Schaller
Thanks for the timely comprehensive calendar. This is amazing.
I took my 11 year old to the Issa T.H. last Saturday. I wish the O’side middle school (MLK) he goes to didn’t refuse to address fearful(of ICE) friends he enjoys.
I spoke w/the Dept. Supt. (Mr. Thompkins) of the District this afternoon about the lack of support for ALL students concerning the fear that Trump has engendered. I wish someone progressive would support me in challenging the school and district. Ten people in front of the district office would send a strong message.
