By Doug Porter
The hard work and dedication of activists all over the United States continues to provide a ray of hope in this era of darkness.
There are two really big days– April 29 & May 1–in this calendar, and I’ve worked hard to provide as much detail as I could find about activities for the multiple events associated with the People’s Climate March and May Day.
There will be no calendar published next Friday (May 5), hence the bigger than usual window for this week’s posting. I’m headed to New Orleans for Jazzfest. (Yay!)
If you’ve scheduled an event for the week of May 7-11 and I didn’t list it here, please feel free to add it in the comments section.
Note: We’ve been fighting a mighty battle in recent weeks against hundreds of (mostly) Russian bots using brute force tactics, trying to do whatever it is they want to do on our site, so the spam blocker probably won’t let links through. (The bot activity is likely more criminal than political in nature. We think.)
So what will you do? Check out this week’s Progressive Calendar listings below. Following those listings are upcoming events of national importance, along with opportunities for organizational involvement and a few reading suggestions.
Get your event listed: I try to list the next 10 days or so of mostly non-commercial events I think our readers might find of interest. I source my material from social media listings and press releases.
Events that are listed on Facebook as ‘private’ or sold out are not listed. In cases where there are competing but similar events or campaigns of the progressive persuasion, I do my best to list everything.
You can now subscribe to the weekly Progressive Calendar. It’s free and we don’t share email addresses with anybody. Scroll down to the end of this column for the link.

Was the attack on Syria a heart felt response by Trump or a warning to the Chinese Government?
Since the bombing, the Russian, Syrian, and Iranian governments have taken further measures to demonstrate to the U.S. that they will not be bullied into submission, including Russian warships crossing into the Mediterranean Sea and moving toward the U.S. ships that launched the attack, Syria firing on U.S. planes, etc.
As we are brought to the edge of global conflict in the Middle East the U.S. further sent its Pacific Fleet straight to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea with a Chinese reply of 150,000 troops stationed along Korea’s northern border.
Are all of those on the so called “left” united on these issues? Are all socialists opposed to U.S. intervention? What is U.S. Imperialism and how do we oppose it? Get these and other questions answered as we work to build a strong understanding of these issues to prepare for what is to be done.
