House – Schedule up late. Check here for complete weekly schedule.

Senate –  TrumpCare vote that was supposed to happen this week is delayed. Revised bill in peril, still stinking of hurting millions of Americans. Question for the GOP geniuses “running” our country: Does having an empty shell of a health insurance plan that doesn’t cover anything count as insurance? The GOP is still bent on “winning” and pushing the bill through rather than getting down to the hard work of legislating. We see you.

Issa’s activities: (Local section)

In the News:

July 14 – Making the SPLC’s “Hatewatch Headlines,” OC weekly reported that Issa spoke at the annual Federation for American Immigration Reform’s (FAIR) “Hold Their Feet to the Fire” event in D.C. on June 28. Hategroup FAIR has extensive ties to white nationalism, and has given Issa a 100% rating.  He was joined at the event by several Republican representatitves and racist, nationalist and proud Nazi-pin wearer Sebastian Gorka. (Wasn’t he supposed to resign?)

July 14 – In a rare moment of “Doing the Right Thing,” Issa was one of the 22 (of 24) Republican members of the Climate Solutions Caucus who joined 24 other House Republicans and all their Democratic colleagues to help defeat a bill amendment that would have prevented the Department of Defense from analyzing and addressing climate change. Full info here.

July 11 – San Diego real estate investor and Democrat Paul Kerr has entered the race for Issa’s House seat, with an emphasis on helping low-income and middle-class families and immigrants.

July 10 – Joel Fox of Fox&Hounds makes an interesting conjecture: “…could San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s decision not to pursue the governor’s job open the door for Congressman Darrell Issa to make a bid?” Is this too much to hope for?

Highlights of Congressional Legislation:

HR 3177 – Keeping Our Commitment to Disabled Veterans – NEW. ISSA BILL!
HR 2851 – SITSA Act– Creates a new schedule allocation for the painkiller Fentanyl with harsh punishments. VOTE SOON!
H Res 438 – To impeach 45. NEW.
HR 806 – Ozone Standards Implementation — weakens ozone regulations. VOTE SOON!
HR 3231 – Amend Title X of Public Health Service Act with respect to adoption and other pregnancy options counseling. Read: Deterring women from abortions. NEW.
HR 175/S 106 – ObamaCare Repeal Act — Bills to repeal not replace the ACA.  Bills could get revived!
S 1456 – A bill to provide that human life shall be deemed to begin with fertilization.
HR 1215 – Protecting Access to Care Act — regulates medical claims. Very good summary here shows how Democrats might be standing in the way of health care costs going down. PASSED HOUSE. ON TO SENATE.

Recommended Action: Send a comment to the FCC in support of net neutrality — the group of laws that make it illegal for internet carriers to show different information to people who pay more. Keep the internet open! The FCC is taking public comment right now. Here’s how to comment.
