Monday: Voting on a series of VA and small business bills

Tuesday: House to vote on sanctions against Russia for election meddling.

Friday: Vote on SECRET Act. For the complete schedule, read here.

Senate

Tuesday: Vote to start debating ACA repeal and/or replace. It’s unclear which bill the Senate would be debating.

The GOP: Is affecting one-sixth of our economy with one irresponsible decision after the other.

Issa’s activities: (Local section) In The News:

July 18 – Was Issa breaking rank with Trump’s administration or helping build a case against Jeff Sessions, when he came out against A.G. Jeff Sessions’ directive for the DOJ to expand the use of asset forfeiture by law enforcement (a controversial practice the Obama administration ended in 2015) in support of the Due Process Act he cosponsored?  This occurred one day before Trump disparaged Sessions in his New York Times interview.

July 13 – Issa has been making a lot of noise about his opposition to a proposed 241 toll road through Orange County that he says will divide communities and “should be rejected outright.”

One writer called it trying to secure San Clemente votes: “He knows the NIMBY vote is always potent.”

In a July 12 letter response, Ed Sachs, chairman of the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency, “schooled” Issa, writing:

“It is unfortunate that some have chosen to spread misinformation about the public’s ideas before they have been given a chance for consideration through this technical evaluation. Since these studies are only in the initiation phase, it would be premature at this time to render a conclusive judgment on any of the ideas proposed by the public,” and adding that traffic divided communities, not roads. (In Mission Viejo Patch)

Highlights of Congressional Legislation:

HR 3231 – Amend Title X of Public Health Service Act with respect to adoption and other pregnancy options counseling. Read: deterring women from abortions.
HR 175/S 106 –  ObamaCare Repeal Act – Bills to repeal not replace the ACA.  Bills could get revived!
S 1456 – A bill to provide that human life shall be deemed to begin with fertilization.
HR 1215 – Protecting Access to Care Act – regulates medical claims. Very good summary here that shows how Dems might be standing in the way of health care costs going down. PASSED HOUSE. ON TO SENATE.
HR 3276 – Repeal the ACA and Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act NEW
HR 3210 – SECRET ACT Expediting security clearance VOTE SOON
HR 3301 – Establishes copyright protections & royalty payments for pre-1972 sound recordings. ISSA BILL!
HR 3324 – To include New Zealand nationals as eligible for US admission as E-1 & E-2 nonimmigrants, if reciprocal. ISSA BILL! NEW BILL!
S 1594 – Modify authority of National Labor Relations Board with respect to rulemaking, issuance of complaints and authority over unfair labor practices. I.e. weakening labor protections. NEW
HR 1555/S 642 FAIR Act – Restoring the integrity of 5th amendment. One implication: not allowing gov’t to seize property of people suspected in drug crimes. GOOD BILL

UPDATE, Via Alliance San Diego: In an unusual procedural move, House Republicans will add $1.6 billion in border wall funding to a “minibus” bill that includes funding for the Defense Department and other agencies including the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Recommended Action: Attend a rally to show the Senate that an ACA repeal and/or replace is not what American want.
