Deputy Richard Fischer on a ‘public relations’ call via @SDSheriff on Twitter
Predators, Perverts, and Racists– Oh, My!
A ninth woman has come forward with claims of sexual misconduct by San Diego County Sheriff Deputy Richard Fischer, according to the Union-Tribune. All the victims are alleging incidents involving unwelcome hugs, groping and, in some cases, implied threats. Although the complaints date back to 2016, the Deputy was not placed on formal leave until lawsuits were filed last month.
It’s not like this was a one-time thing for at least one of the women; I’d call it stalking:
“When he clicked the seat belt into place, he rubbed L.R.’s breasts up and down using the heel of his hand and the inner part of his arm,” one of the new lawsuits alleges. “Fischer said, ‘Oh I hope your husband doesn’t mind.’”
That complaint, filed Wednesday in San Diego Superior Court by a woman who did not want to be publicly identified as a victim of sexual assault, accuses Fischer of accosting her five other times before she was released with a misdemeanor ticket last year.
“L.R. continues to be scared of law enforcement officers, and every time she sees a SDSO vehicle she wonders if it is Fischer and is frightened that Fischer may retaliate against her,” the lawsuit states.
Let me use this occasion to remind everybody that Sheriff Bill Gore is up for re-election come June 5. And candidate Sheriff Commander Dave Myers is looking better all the time.
In case you missed it, here’s the alleged pedophile and Republican Senate candidate from Alabama, via The Grio:
Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore apparently thinks slavery is what made America great.
During a rally in Florence, Alabama, in September, Moore was asked by an African-American man in the audience when he believed America was great, and this was his answer:
“I think it was great at the time when families were united. Even though we had slavery, they cared for one another. … Our families were strong, our country had a direction.”
Finally, since nobody on the left side of the aisle cared to organize a demonstration near the site where prototypes for the TrumpWall are standing, the Nativist Nutcases from the region have decided to have a celebration of ‘we’re not racism’ this weekend. Rep. Duncan Hunter will be the featured speaker, who will no doubt vape and huff and puff until the bad hombres sneaking over the border run away. There’s a prison nearby, should the 50th District congressman want to sneak a peek at what his future lodgings could look like.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security spent time and energy earlier this year warning of large-scale protests and violence, according to an intelligence alert described to The Wall Street Journal by two law-enforcement officials, so this has got to be a wet dream for the local law and order types, who have advised participants that carrying self-defense gear is perfectly acceptable.
There is a group organizing a counter-demonstration. I won’t be going. I get enough stupid from watching the news these days.
The holiday season is upon us, and many groups are taking a break. Next Friday’s (Dec 15) Activist Calendar will be the last one for 2017; I’ll resume on January 5, 2018.
Check out this week’s Progressive Calendar listings below. Following those listings are upcoming events of national importance, along with opportunities for organizational involvement.
Get your event listed: I try to list the next 10 days or so of mostly non-commercial events I think our readers might find of interest. I source my material from social media listings and press releases. Club meetings will be listed IF there are speakers and they are open to the public.
Democratic Candidates: I will list all non-fundraising events open to the general public. A listing does not imply endorsement. Events that are listed on Facebook as ‘private’ or sold-out are not listed. In cases where there are competing but similar events or campaigns of the progressive persuasion, I do my best to list everything.

Human Rights Day of Action 2017

San Diego County is a multi-national , multicultural region with vibrant immigrant and refugee populations. With the erosion of public trust in government and increasingly uncivil public discourse, we call on local lawmakers to stand up for all San Diegans and to ensure the region’s newcomer, immigrant, and Muslim families are safe, valued and included members of our shared community. So that every San Diegan may feel safe, valued and included, our region must address the key sustainability issues of access to housing, transparent democracy, and constitutional rights to privacy and free practice of religion.
On December 10th, as we observe International Human Rights Day of Action, we will gather as a chorus of voices standing up against hateful rhetoric and discriminatory legislation. We call on our public elected representatives—and on each other—to take responsible action to welcome and protect the rights of our newcomer and immigrant families.

For More Information (Tickets)
Hosted by NAN San Diego & Imperial Counties
The National Action Network is known for its action lead style and its aggressive approach to civil advocacy. Jane Elliot has and still continues to this fight on whole other level. Jane states that’s it’s about the ignorance of one people at the expense of another, and frankly, she doesn’t put up with it. With her robust style and surprise tactics Jane puts you into a world where you are placed in the very shoes of the person who is at the brunt of the most covert mistreatment in human history.
Jane Elliott, internationally known teacher, lecturer, diversity trainer, and recipient of the National Mental Health Association Award for Excellence in Education, exposes prejudice and bigotry for what it is, an irrational class system based upon purely arbitrary factors. And if you think this does not apply to you. . . you are in for a rude awakening.
In response to the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. over thirty years ago, Jane Elliott devised the controversial and startling, “Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes” exercise. This, now famous, exercise labels participants as inferior or superior based solely upon the color of their eyes and exposes them to the experience of being a minority. Everyone who is exposed to Jane Elliott’s work, be it through a lecture, workshop, or video, is dramatically affected by it.

After a year spent attempting to get VA management to address the patient care concerns of VA nurses and veterans, it is time to take our concerns public. Patient care concerns are ignored. As patient advocates, we cannot sit by while the patient care environment for our veterans becomes unhealthy. Nurses, veterans, and the community will stand together in front of the San Diego VA entrance and bring the nurses’ voices forward to the public. Watching Jeff Orlowski’s 2017 is a remarkable experience, one that teeters between overwhelming the viewer with the scope of earth’s ruin and inspiring them to find ways to help. Free
