This is likely to be a historic week for activism in San Diego. Black Women will march to build power and community on Saturday, Anti-Trump Protests will span Monday & Tuesday, and students from five colleges, along with 29 elementary thru high schools will walk out for 17 minutes on Wednesday to protest gun violence.
Plus! There are thirty-two other opportunities to educate, organize, demonstrate, and engage with progressives throughout the region. Whether it’s electoral politics, teach-ins, grass root community activism on neighborhood issues, there’s something to do.

Mr. Green regularly writes for The Huffington Post and has been interviewed by a variety of media outlets on Islamophobia, including CNN, NPR, Al Jazeera, France 24, and Reuters. His views on Islamophobia have been cited by organizations such as the Council on Foreign Relations, the Center for American Progress, and the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Mr. Green is the author of The Fear of Islam: An Introduction to Islamophobia in the West (Fortress Press, 2015). The book surveys the history of anti-Muslim prejudice in Europe and the United States and addresses the political and cultural factors contributing to the rise of Islamophobia in the post-9/11 era.
Mr. Green’s forthcoming book is Presumed Guilty: Why We Shouldn’t Ask Muslims to Condemn Terrorism (Fortress Press, 2018). This book argues that asking Muslims to condemn terrorist attacks carried out by organizations such as al-Qaeda or ISIS is a distraction that prevents majority populations in the US and Europe both from facing their own violent histories and from asking critical questions about how their countries’ national security initiatives and foreign policies contribute to a violent world order. The book proposes healthier ways for majority populations to engage Muslim communities other than through the prisms of violence and counter-terrorism. Women’s March San Diego is mobilizing! We have confirmation that #45 will be coming to San Diego on Tuesday, March 13 to inspect the Border Wall Prototypes in Otay Mesa. The City of San Diego is already preparing for this visit and has sent out a Temporary Area Restriction notice indicating road closures, etc.
We need as many Marchers out as possible to show #45 what we think about his visit! Let’s tell him that we want to BUILD BRIDGES, NOT WALLS!
Our sources say that #45 will likely NOT be in a motorcade to the prototypes, but instead will land in Air Force One at either Miramar or North Island and take a helicopter to the site.

Our plan is to have a large sign that spells out our message to #45 so that he will be able to see it from the air. It is important to note that we will not be getting close to the site, crossing into Mexico, nor will we be close to #45, BUT! Please bring your own signs (no sticks please!) and be ready to tell the entire world that San Diego does not agree with having a border wall, nor do we want #45 here!
As always, our protest is a peaceful demonstration; however, we are asking for our families to consider leaving their children at home as we understand there will be a couple of groups somewhere close to the site on this day and they are known for inciting violence. We want to be transparent and let everyone know of this potential.

As Trump tours the eight border wall prototypes, like a reality show bachelor handing a rose to the winning bride, Indivisible members will recount Trump’s humiliation by President Peña Nieto of Mexico, who refused Trump’s pleading to pay for the wall.
Citizens will speak out against Trump’s wasteful spending plan and pledge to lobby Congress not to fund the wall.
San Diego taxpayers will decry the $20 million in federal money that was spent to build the prototypes and the $2.6 million in San Diego funds that were wasted to secure a protest area against one rally of 20 wall opponents.
Citizens will also address better uses of taxpayer money, such as improving military training and safety to reduce fatalities, getting homeless veterans off the streets and reducing wait times at the San Diego/Tijuana border that impede commerce and cost jobs.
Let’s send Trump a loud and clear message as he comes to San Diego to tour the border wall prototypes. San Diegans are not fooled by his lies. He broke his promise to his base! Mexico will not pay for his wall.
We will resist any effort by Congress to force us to pay for his stupid wall. We believe in building bridges, not walls!

Extraordinary signs of a parallel universe, full of (perhaps IT/computer) glitches. The Chief Antagonist’s visit to view those wall prototypes means the Sheriff will allow “no firearms, knives daggers, clubs… picks, axes … slingshots bricks… bear spray, poles… (deep breath) sticks, dowels… glass bottles or containers…” and, get this, ROCKS, in the area of The Antagonist’s visit. Are they going to be scouring the area for rocks? Will they preen it of glass bottles? None of these dangerous items (thank the Sheriff for defying the NRA and forbidding firearms) will be allowed into streets around the area, including one named Kelianne (Con?)Way. The parallel universe has already provocatively named a street on the border after a special advisor to The Chief Antagonist? Wow… this IS a moment of disturbing alternative vibes. I’m wearing my tin hat.
