1.The Good, Bad, Really Ugly all rolled up in one award: Clint Eastwood/chair- “This is a perfect representation of the campaign: an old white man arguing with an imaginary Barack Obama.” Jamelle Bouie
2. The Newticles, make that King Newticles, the Noble King Newticles Award: Newt Gingrich (of course!)- “We need to reassert,” he said, “the nobility of creating jobs and wealth.”
3. Michele Bachmann Alternative Universe Award: Michele Bachmann is encouraging voters to support Mitt Romney because President Barack Obama is “extremely wealthy” and can’t relate to the “common man.”
4. True American Spirit Award: Mitt Romney- “Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s campaign on Wednesday partied with wealthy donors on a 150-foot yacht that flies the flag of the Cayman Islands”
5. Imperious Mommy Knows Best Award: Ann Romney, for explaining stuff to dumb brown people ” ‘You better really look at the issues this time. We better really look at your future and figure out who’s going to be the guy who’s going to make it better for you and your children.’ And there is only one answer.”
6. The Oy vey award: Lindsey Graham– “We’re not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term.”
Ann Romney famously said, “We’ve paid all the taxes that are legally required.” What she didn’t say is that they didn’t pay taxes on the money in their offshore bank accounts because taxes on those accounts are not legally required. Anyone can set up an offshore corporation linked to an offshore bank account in a no tax jurisdiction where no taxes are ever legally required. Ann, why don’t you elaborate a little on that? Tell us why no taxes were legally required on most of the money you and Mitt made.
“We’ve paid all the taxes that are legally required” is sounding more and more like the divine right of kings argument. The American people aren’t buying that.
