Cabrillo Closed-Shutdown

We’re in Day 3 of the Federal government shutdown. If you are outraged or upset, how about calling or contacting San Diego’s Congressional members who support the shutdown?

Call Congressmen Darrell Issa and Duncan Hunter, Jr. Both are Republicans and both have consistently voted to shutdown the federal government in efforts to defund the law called the Affordable Care Act.

San Diego’s Democratic Congressional members, Susan Davis, Juan Vargas, and Scott Peters – all have supported the Obama Administration’s efforts to keep the government open.

Here’s contact info on both Darrell Issa and Duncan Hunter.

Frank Gormlie

A lawyer and grassroots activist, I was finally convinced by Patty Jones to start the OB Rag, a blog of citizen journalists, after she got tired of listening to my rants about the news. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.

Republican portrait in courage: Berate the park ranger responsible for carrying out the Republican shutdown orders.
    These folks have no shame.

Here’s a couple of suggestions for what to do when you call these two up:
    1. First click on Anna Daniel’s link. It reveals a Republican Congressman who voted for the shutdown telling a Park Ranger she should be ashamed of herself for not admitting the people to the barricaded national park. Tell the Congressmen’s office workers what you saw, and that the evidence seems to indicate Republicans never took the time to consider the damage they were doing when they voted for the shutdown.
    2. If you were planning on going up to Miramar Marine Air Base for the cancelled air show, let ’em know. If you’ve been furloughed, let ’em know how you feel about that. If you’re a vet and can’t get your treatments because office staff is furloughed, let ’em know. It’s always more effective to deal in facts. Whether the Congress member has or hasn’t ignored them; a citizen aware of them gets more attention.

There probably won’t be anyone to respond to the calls due to the furlough.

These Tea Party folks won’t be satisfied until they shut down the Federal government permanently thus winning by default what they couldn’t win in the Civil War. Then they can have their Confederate States of America and California and Texas can become their own nations. The rest of the states can fend for themselves.

John Lawrence you are absolutely spot on. The Republican party, unfortunately, has become craven and beholden to a small group of neo-Confederates. Their aim was to secede then. Now, that isn’t really an option. So they choose to have this shutdown tantrum that now threatens our whole democratic process and our economy because they can’t stand the new healthcare law that will helps millions of Americans afford health insurance?! Can we talk about cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face?

Reality: Issa doesn’t know it, can’t see it and would redistrict it if he thought it would get him re-elected. Doesn’t say much for my fellow 50th voters who keep him in office…

Let it be known that Frank Gormlie, Patty Jones, Doug Porter, Annie Lane, Brent Beltrán, Anna Daniels, and Rich Kacmar did something necessary and beautiful together for 6 1/2 years. Together, we advanced the cause of journalism by advancing the cause of justice. It has been a helluva ride. "Sometimes a great notion..." (Click here for more details)
