More than 60 volunteer citizen journalists in the region wrote about homelessness, spiraling rents, labor issues, police-community relations, the environment, mental health, city planning, and local politics from a progressive perspective this past year.

The San Diego Free Press is run by seven volunteer editorial board members — Annie Lane, Doug Porter, Patty Jones, Brent Beltrán, Anna Daniels, Frank Gormlie and Rich Kacmar. They have directed this online platform seven days a week for five years. They have collectively provided outreach into the community, dealt with legal issues, become experts on WordPress and social media, and created a progressive media vision.

SDFP’s four (volunteer) daily editors — Doug Porter, Annie Lane, Rich Kacmar and Anna Daniels — do the day in and day out work of receiving, inputting, editing and publishing articles. This also includes responding to emails, requesting additional information from contributors when necessary, and finding images to go with articles (again, when necessary).

San Diego Free Press Has Suspended Publication as of Dec. 14, 2018

Let it be known that Frank Gormlie, Patty Jones, Doug Porter, Annie Lane, Brent Beltrán, Anna Daniels, and Rich Kacmar did something necessary and beautiful together for 6 1/2 years.
