Lanny Davis, who serves as attorney for former Donald Trump attorney Michael Cohen, stated yesterday that Cohen is willing to talk to special counsel Robert Mueller about crimes that go beyond those Cohen admitted on Tuesday. According to Davis, Cohen will provide evidence about the “possibility of a conspiracy to collude and corrupt the American democracy system in the 2016 election.” And Cohen will also testify that Trump knew about the theft of documents from the DNC by Russian hackers before that information became public.
On Tuesday, Donald Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen plead guilty to eight counts including felony violations of campaign finance laws, During this plea, Cohen stated that he undertook these crimes at the direction of “a candidate for federal office.” making Trump literally an unnamed co-conspirator in multiple federal offenses.
But Davis, appearing on MSNBC’s Rachael Maddow program, made statements that went beyond implicating Trump in admitted crimes. Davis’ statements made it clear that Cohen was willing to talk to the special counsel, and was able to speak directly to the area of a conspiracy involving the Russian government.
Davis: Mr. Cohen has knowledge on certain subjects that should be of interest to the special counsel, and is more than happy to tell the special counsel all that he knows. Not just about the obvious possibility of a conspiracy to collude and corrupt the American democracy system in the 2016 election, which the Trump Tower meeting was all about. But also knowledge about the computer crime of hacking and whether or not Mr. Trump knew ahead of time about that crime and even cheered it on. We know he publicly cheered it on, but did he also have private information.
Appearing again on NBC’s Today program, Davis repeated several of these statements, along with declaring that Cohen would not accept a pardon from Trump if it was offered because Cohen regards Trump as “too corrupt” to be the source of a pardon. In both cases, Davis stated that, having faced up to his own crimes and admitted to his wrongdoing, Cohen is now free to “speak truth to power” and tell the truth about Donald Trump.
As Trump continues to shout “where’s the collusion” Cohen appears to be ready to hand the special counsel a detailed map.
If anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you don’t retain the services of Michael Cohen!
