A word on Colbert’s beloved “truthiness.” Amidst the eruption over Rudy ‘Foot-In-Mouth’ Giuliani’s claim that “truth isn’t truth,” after the mockery and analysis and Orwellian analogies, let’s remember this isn’t a blip or aberration – it’s who Trump and his fellow, enabling madmen are.
On Tuesday, Giuliani muddied the deeply swampy waters with a “clarification” that his statement “was not meant as a pontification on moral theology but one referring to the situation where two people make precisely contradictory statements… Sometimes further inquiry can reveal the truth other times it doesn’t.” Umm, okay. But still nope.
Coming after Trump’s over 4,200 “alternative facts” and “What you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening” etc etc etc, Giuliani’s flub is, in fact, Trump’s epitaph, his mantra, his jingle, the perfect awful soundbite for “an entire enterprise (that) has been a lie, a fraud, a grift, a cruel deception.”
In a new book, “Everything Trump Touches Dies,” GOP political consultant Rick Wilson echoes that reality, eviscerating the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of “a goddamned degenerate pussy-grabber with a lifetime of adultery, venality, and dishonesty.” Wilson is as unsparing as he should be toward Trump, “his soft-jawed offspring…his far-flung empire of bullshit…and a hotbed (of) pay-to-play…Wall Street alumni who have behaved with weapons-grade venality.”
Samples: “Everything about Trump’s opening speech was moral poison…The right is merrily on board with a lunatic with delusions of godhood…Washington is the drug-resistant syphilis of political climates.” He also blames himself and his ilk when “the creature that emerged after Sarah Palin crawled from the political Hellmouth in 2008.” “We fed the monster and trained it,” he writes. “Then Trump came along …The monster is out of its cage, and its new trainers (encourage) only its dumbest, darkest, most capricious, cruel and violent behaviors.” His book, he says, is meant as “one of a number of poison darts in the neck of the monster.”
Let’s hope it helps kill the beast, please.
