By Michaela Shafer Porte

I come not to bury the San Diego Free Press, but to praise it.

I believe in the resurrection of the soul of this Press for the people of San Diego, and the world.

Brief, shining moments have a way of sticking round in our hearts, like Camelot.

The dedication and intellectual prowess of the staff, the superior narrative of writers and  contributors, great and small, the diversity, tolerance and general interest of the articles, the stream of consciousness of the commentary feed, the local and global social participatory engagement, the love, to all that commendations of the highest nature to a true free press of the United States of America. Bravo. Ben Franklin would be proud.

The only San Diego press worth reading, like it or not.

To all natural things the winter comes, but spring is the promise of nature, of the future.

It is an ever changing world. San Diego Free Press is like a spark in our hearts since the ’60s, never extinguished, always ready to re-ignite. Warmth, light, voice, collectivity, defense, expression, sharing….emblems of an enlightened society, enlightened by technology, enlightened by the people of the San Diego Free Press, these people Doug, Patty, Anna, Frank, Annie, Brent, Rich, et al, bravo. So, so much, bravo.

And YES.

I hope we have not heard the last of the San Diego Free Press Staff and of the SDFP itself. What a contribution to all of us who believe in the power of a free press.

San Diego Free Press Has Suspended Publication as of Dec. 14, 2018

Let it be known that Frank Gormlie, Patty Jones, Doug Porter, Annie Lane, Brent Beltrán, Anna Daniels, and Rich Kacmar did something necessary and beautiful together for 6 1/2 years. Together, we advanced the cause of journalism by advancing the cause of justice. It has been a helluva ride. "Sometimes a great notion..." (Click here for more details)
