As always, elections are a mixed bag. I’m not sure if we got what we need nationally, but the are local victories to be savored.
Before El Trumpo sends the nation into chaos once again, take time to savor these defeats of local deplorables..
Let’s start with the San Diego judiciary’s national embarrassment, Judge Gary Kreep.
Deputy District Attorney Matt Brower ran up a nearly 20 point margin over 2012’s “oops” victor in the race for Superior Court Office Number 37. Voters last time around had to make an unfortunate choice between two easily derided last names.
Now that mistake has been rectified, so Judge Kreep can resume his search for ex-President Obama’s birth certificate.
El Cajon’s answer to the clownish side of Donald Trump, City Council member Ben Kalasho received just short of 16% of the vote in his race against Gary Kendrick. That, by, the way, is the lowest percentage of the vote in any head-to-head race for municipal office in San Diego County.
I’m sure Kalasho will be tweeting away about the international media conspiracy to defame him, and maybe he’ll even file some lawsuits so they can get thrown out.
The bad news here is this election doesn’t remove Kalasho from office. El Cajon is switching over to district elections, and he retains his previously won al-large seat for another two years.
Hector Gastelum, the Otay Water Board member who thought he’d ride his anti-Muslim/MAGA persona into the Mayor’s office in Chula Vista got just about 30% of the vote.
Incumbent Democrat Mary Salas will get the opportunity to oversee things in what promises to be an exciting few years (the waterfront development) for San Diego’s second largest city.
If folks come to my place throwing rocks, damaging my fence & home; do you think I’m more inclined to let them in, feed them & pay their bills?
Of course NOT!BTW How many Engineers, Nurses, Doctors, Entrepreneurs, Teachers in the #MigrantInvasion #CaravanaMigrante?#MAGA #KAG pic.twitter.com/dSfzrz28mC
