By Junco Canché
San Diego Free Press introduces our first editorial cartoonist: Junco Canché! Junco has lived in the San Diego/Tijuana border region his entire life and currently resides in the city of San Diego in the South Bay right next door to Imperial Beach. His cartoons have been featured prominently at Southwestern College’s The Sun newspaper and now shares his work here at San Diego Free Press. Please welcome him by posting your comments below.
Awesome addition – love political cartoons and a real addition to the SDFP.
Well done Junco! We are looking forward to more.
A fellow Barrio Logan resident, Hector Villegas, put me in contact with Junco Canché (pseudonym) after I mentioned to him that I had an idea for a cartoon against the maritime industry polluters (the one above). We met, I really dug the work he showed me and he was interested in doing more editorial cartoons. He decided on the spot he wanted to work with us. Sometimes all it takes is asking.
The key phrase about “disdain for Barrio Logan residents” is absolutely right on. How the two of them can continue to voice the lies about lost jobs, shipyards leaving San Diego and thousands of new houses to be built next to the shipyards is breathtaking.
For anyone reading this who doesn’t yet understand, the Barrio Logan Community Plan explicitly BARS new residential in the blocks across from the shipyards. Read the City Attorney’s ballot analysis for factual information.
Sanders probably is the kind of cop who wears his uniform tight .
K-Faulk and J-Sand just want to demonstrate who’s really in charge in San Diego – Big Business. And what Big Business wants, Big Business gets by any means necessary. It’s a reminder that democracy really doesn’t work, and the right thing will not be done if the rich and powerful decided that some other way works best for them.
I love political cartoons! This is very exciting! And right on target.
True that! A welcome addition to SDFP.
