Who’s Going to Protect Our LGBTQ Citizens? | Video Worth Watching

July 27, 2017 by Staff

Who was it now that I remember saying:

“As your president I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens …”

Oh yeah, it was this guy:

“The United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military.”

Why am I not surprised?   [Read more…]

Everything Old Is New Again | Video Worth Watching

July 26, 2017 by Staff

[NSFW: language]
Everything old is new again. A cabinet embroiled in illegal/improper activities. A Department of Justice fixated on swelling the prison population and against street crime—provided that street isn’t Wall Street. An FCC attempting to strip away protections from public communication outlets. An administration that claims to not want to be on your back—just in your womb. Religious institutions that want to be exempt from civil responsibilities. For Moral Majority substitute Evangelicals; for cocaine substitute medical marijuana. George Carlin, circa 1990, or today?
And yes, George’s language can get quite raw. Not for tender ears.   [Read more…]

New Spelling Bee Rules For Trump’s America | Video Worth Watching

July 25, 2017 by Staff

I was rereading “The Michael Moore Easy-to-Follow 10-Point Plan to Stop Trump” and was reminded that point number 10 is: “JOIN THE ARMY OF COMEDY: Trump’s Achilles heel is his massively thin skin.” So, in the furtherance of carrying out what I believe to be my patriotic duty, I present a recent Funny or Die video that pokes fun at our Tweet-obsessed leader’s somewhat idiosyncratic lexicon.

Donald Trump’s First 100 Days In Office (as told by Matt Groening) | Video Worth Watching

July 24, 2017 by Staff

The Huffington Post‘s David Moye reports that Matt Groening made an appearance Saturday at this year’s Comic-Con. Matt related that 21st Century Fox executives had directed the series’ writers to go easier in their portrayal of Fox News. Apparently the segment that included the disclaimer that they were “not racist, but No. 1 with racists” was a stretch too far for the suits. There may be some pushback from Matt, though, considering that during his presentation he got fired up enough to lead the crowd in a chant of “Lock him up! Lock him up!” Gosh, what could have inspired that?!?   [Read more…]

It’s a Wonderful Life – AlternativeFactsMusic | Video Worth Watching

July 23, 2017 by Staff

Don’t let the title of today’s pick fool you. It may be a riff on the title of the holiday classic, but it’s one packed with sarcasm and irony. This group’s lemma is “Speaking Truth to Power with music” and they have a decidedly activist vision. Sometimes the vision can be dark, but it can also be motivating. It’s vital to have a vision of what kind of world we are trying to bring about, but it’s equally important not to lose sight of the alternative scenario that we are desperately trying to avoid. And they do it with vivid images and a catchy beat …   [Read more…]

Angélique Kidjo featuring Branford Marsalis – “Lonlon (Ravel’s Bolero)” | Video Worth Watching

July 22, 2017 by Staff

When Maurice Ravel originally composed his Boléro in 1928 it was written to accompany ballet and there was no libretto. The work’s popularity has generated many arrangements and scorings, though, and now I’m thrilled to discover it inspired Angélique Kidjo to create a version where her voice is an essential element joining the more traditional instruments. This performance for a 2011 WGBH special, “Spirit Rising”, also features Branford Marsalis.   [Read more…]

You Don’t Want to Look In There … | Video Worth Watching

July 20, 2017 by Staff

According to the New York Times, “Asked if Mr. Mueller’s investigation would cross a red line if it expanded to look at his family’s finances beyond any relationship to Russia, Mr. Trump said, ‘I would say yes.’ ” As Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post quipped on last night’s MSNBC “The 11th Hour with Brian Williams”, that part of the interview “was like being pulled over by a cop and saying ‘Fine officer, whatever you say, but whatever you do, don’t look in the trunk.’ ” Here’s Parnell from “Repo Man” warning a trooper that “You don’t wanna look in there.”   [Read more…]

Seven Years Of Republicans Promising An Obamacare Replacement | Video Worth Watching

July 19, 2017 by Staff

How long have Republicans been talking about repealing and replacing Obamacare? Seems like forever, no? Here’s a HuffPost video from January of this year (which now makes it seven and a half years!) although nothing of much substance has changed other than reneging on the promise of immediate replacement. Do you think anyone has gotten […]

The Best Fox News Explanations for Trump Jr.’s Russia Meeting | Video Worth Watching

July 18, 2017 by Staff

Are you curious to know how Fox News is covering the most recently revealed Donald Trump Jr. meeting with the Russians, but the thought of actually subjecting your brain to a prolonged dose of Fox drivel makes you weak in the knees and sets off spasms of hyperventilation? Well, you’re in luck! Vox News’ Carlos Maza fortified himself, took the plunge and produced a short video that distills the essence of what makes Fox Faux.   [Read more…]

San Diego Free Press Has Suspended Publication as of Dec. 14, 2018

Let it be known that Frank Gormlie, Patty Jones, Doug Porter, Annie Lane, Brent Beltrán, Anna Daniels, and Rich Kacmar did something necessary and beautiful together for 6 1/2 years. Together, we advanced the cause of journalism by advancing the cause of justice. It has been a helluva ride. "Sometimes a great notion..." (Click here for more details)
